The Westmoreland Hills Garden Club was founded in 1956 by a group of women whose interest was to improve and beautify their neighborhood. In that spirit, they took on the challenge in 1959 of developing what is now the Corner Garden located at the the intersection of Elliott Road and Duvall Drive. Over the years, the garden has been updated and enhanced by the addition of a brick path, trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals as well as stone benches.
In addition, in 1977, members established the Jamestown Creek Wild Plant Sanctuary (on Jamestown Road between Duvall & Dalecarlia Drives) in recognition of the importance of managing storm water drainage and the cultivation of native plants.
The nurturing of the Corner Garden and the Jamestown Creek Native Plant Sanctuary remain the club's primary function. Members work in groups and are assigned clean up duties 2-3 times a year. Proceeds from the Garden & Gourmet Sale and our Garlands & Greens Sale maintain the Corner Garden and the Wild Plant Sanctuary.
