September is the perfect time to rejuvenate your lawn. Learn the importance of soil ph, lime application, de-thatching, aeration, over-seeding and fertilization. Maryland's new laws are in effect for lawn fertilizers. These laws were instituted to prevent run off of harmful fertilizers in to the Chesapeake Bay. Lawn fertilizers now sold in the state are formulated to comply with lawn fertilizer law. Lawn maintenance fertilizers have zero phosphorus in them and contain at least 20% slow-release nitrogen. Specialty products containing phosphorus are still available and may be used when a soil test indicates the need for phosphorus.
